Open Advice Sessions

Metalwas founded in London in 2002 by Jude Kelly CBE, working with current Artistic Director and CEO, Colette Bailey since its inception. It has been active in Liverpool since 2004, in Southend-on-Sea since 2007 and in Peterborough since 2012. From these bases, Metal works to provide the catalyst that can transform the potential of people and places, exploring the impact of art and artists' practices on civic and civil society. Metal produces an exciting multidisciplinary programme of international and UK artists in residence and runs a wide range of events, exhibitions and participatory projects.In Liverpool, Metal work out of Edge Hill Station, the world’s oldest active passenger railway station. Metal completed a major renovation of the previously empty, historic buildings in 2009. The original 1836 Engine House, Boiler Room and Accumulator Tower now serve as a cultural and creative hub for artists, the neighbourhood and wider city region, carrying on the building’s proud history of innovation, aspiration and technology.

We’re offering free one to one sessions for artists who live and/or work within Edge Hill and the surrounding area - roughly L7, L8 and L15.

Metal Culture

Our Metal Open Advice Sessions for artists are back!We’re offering free 1:1 sessions for artists who live and/or work within our local areas. These sessions will be led by you and what you would like to discuss, which might include:• Discussing your creative practice• Talking through a project idea• Advice or sign posting to different funding routes or opportunities• Building relationships with different organisations, voluntary groups, partners or venues• Budget development or reading draft applications We’re offering these sessions in person at our location (Edge Hill Station in Liverpool), as well as the option to discuss your work with us online. There is one session available per artist and the slots are 1 hour long.Sessions are free and will be open on a first come first served basis (to those who live and/or work in the location where we are based). Any artist that has previously booked a slot with us won’t be eligible this time. We look forward to chatting with you! Things to note:Our team will share their experience and backgrounds with the disclaimer that that some things brought into the Open Advice Sessions might be outside of our expertise. In this instance, we will try our best to help in the session.What you share with us in the session will stay in the meeting. We will not share your ideas outside of the session spaceAbout the Metal Liverpool team:In Liverpool, we are all practicing artists in our spare time and have lots of experience developing participatory projects, and projects with clear social and/political impacts, that work with people from different backgrounds. We have supported a variety of artistic disciplines and support a community of artists in our buildings from theatre, dance, film, music, writing, sculpture, drawing and painting, as well as arts for health and wellbeing benefits. We have experience applying for Arts Council Funding, as well as locally based small trusts and funds.
