MeMA/&/…Studio is [something] about administrative and commercial needs that we try to establish without fully knowing where it starts or where it ends...I think MeMA existince I decided to be part but also stand against the system, between concrete (real) and abstract (virtual reality) discussions. Is architecture an occupation?(I find this definition more accurate)or is it a profession? (Since the beginning of the 20th century, I think , architecture is one of the professions which is described less and less satisfactorialy.)MERT EYiLER​mert eyiler was born in 1975 in Antalya. He began his architectural studies at Anadolu University, graduated from ITU - Department of Architecture in 1995. He received his Master of Science degree from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1997. Between 1996-2006, he worked with the architect Nevzat Sayın(he always regards as a great training experience).In 2007, he started his own practiceMeMA.He was promoted as one of the 8 emerging practices in Turkey in “Transforming Turkey: Eight Emerging Practices” the special issue of AD Magazine. He was awarded for the ArkiteraYoung Architect Awardin 2012.Alongside his practice, he taught architectural design studios at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul Kultur University,Istanbul Bilgi Universityand Bahcesehir University between 2008-2017.In 2016, he was awarded for the 'Europe40 Under 40Award' by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. In 2017, he foundedMeMALoNDoNand currently he is running his architectural studio in London, UK.

MeMAlondon

What makes an entity unbounded? Is it an open boundary or a boundary close as an island? How can open boundaries be translated to the city? What roles do architects, non-architects, tangible, and intangible dynamics play in these?
Organised by architecture practice MeMAlondon, Open Boundary is a roundtable that aims to bring boundaries up in relation to diversified habitats. Speakers will include Dilek Öztürk, founding partner of IN-BETWEEN Design Platform; Alper Derinboğaz, founder of Salon Architects; Zeynep Aydemir, researcher on architectural design learning; and Mert Eyiler founder of MeMAlondon.
Discussions may consider varying conceptualisations of the word ‘boundary’ and responses to this concept. What can we learn from the unboundedness of Gobekli Tepe, ancient Mesopotamian site built nearly 12,000 years ago and from Harran as a gateway of Greek, Roman, Assyrian and Babel societies for more than 5,000 years? How can the Mesopotamian knowledge be translated to contemporary cities? How can we bridge a gap in-between the point of zero and the possible future scenarios we are discussing today around architecture? Today's architecture is becoming a soft power connecting the know how in between diverse civilizations and thus, speaking a universal language, no matter what, we all become a part of the dialogue and feel the urge to participate.
