Open Fire is an immersive installation that tells the story of a planet ablaze, a story which is real and happens every year (take as an example Spain, Canada, Greece, Australia, Hawaii, Chile and Brazil, to name but a few). Join us for this exhibition opening and roundtable which will bring together citizen voices, experts and the artist in a debate on the climate crisis and fire. The event’s Q&amp;A will be an important opportunity for you to share your own thoughts on how climate change, politics and fire have impacted natural and cultural landscapes, and also potential solutions.

Panellists:<a href="https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/persons/rachel-carmenta" title="https://research-portal.uea.ac.uk/en/persons/rachel-carmenta" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Rachel Carmenta</a> - interdisciplinary conservation scientist with expertize in the social equity dimensions of environmental governance, with a particular focus on tropical fire and Assistant Professor of Global Development and Climate Change, Tyndall Centre and School of Global Development, University of East Anglia, UK. <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/danny-lee-37045015" title="https://www.linkedin.com/in/danny-lee-37045015" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Daniel Lee</a> - Trustee of Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis (<a href="https://www.winacc.org.uk" title="https://www.winacc.org.uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WinACC</a>) and Green Party Councillor at Winchester City Council Hampshire Climate Action Network Trustee<a href="https://www.marileneribeiro.com/biography" title="https://www.marileneribeiro.com/biography" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Marilene Ribeiro</a> - Visual artist, researcher and activist. The Culture-Media-Text Research Centre, The University of Winchester. * Open Fire is the recipient of the Royal Geographic Society / Earth Photo - Photoworks Award 2024, the POY Latam / Environment Photography Award 2023, The Brazil’s National Arts Foundation Marc Ferrez Photography Prize, and has been recently shortlisted for the Prix Photo Dahiden 2024.** This event has been made possible through the UKRI Enhancing Research Culture Fund.*** The Open Fire project was sponsored by Brazil's National Arts Foundation (Funarte) through its Marc Ferrez Photography Prize.
