Open Mind Summit

Join our next community of practice exploring the theme of Mental Health in an Unequal World.

Exploring this years World Mental Health Day theme, we will be hosting a panel discussion on mental health in an unequal world followed by a teach-meet format inviting practitioners to share a current project or idea for 5 minutes that addresses the theme. We&#x27;re excited to have Sam Stephen (Education Consultant &amp; Makaton Tutor), Shannon Boston (Young Peer Researcher, Open Space Project Shetland) and Shanea Oldham (Youth Social Action Manager) joining us for the panel discussion. Sam will be sharing his experiences working in additional support education and involvement in a research project looking at the benefits of singing and signing for mental wellbeing. Shannon will be discussing her role in youth-led community action research looking into safe spaces for young people in Shetland and how this is important for mental health. Shanea will talk about her role in the YoungMinds Activist Programme to create fun, creative spaces for young people to build community, explore activism and learn new skills.To ensure the networks varying interests are being explored, the teach-meet will involve a few different breakout rooms. If there are any particular interests around the theme that you would like to explore during the teach-meet, let us know and we&#x27;ll do our best to create the space to discuss these interests. The Open Mind Network is a community of practice bringing together practitioners across Scotland and sectors passionate about supporting young people around creativity and mental health and wellbeing. We aim to meet quarterly online to:<ul><li>Support network building </li><li>Share developing practice and challenges openly</li><li>Signpost to resources and build connectivity. </li></ul>The Open Mind Network is facilitated by Create Paisley and Science Ceilidh (with support from Future Paisley and other partners) and we want this to be a peer-led network for and with those working in this space and welcome format and theme ideas!
