T﻿his is an open business networking event to be held at the Marsh Farm Hotel in Royal Wootton Bassett near Swindon, organised by Professional Connections Wiltshire. It&#x27;s a low cost, ticketed one-off event where the guest speaker for the evening will be Eddie The Eagle. P﻿rofessional Connections Wiltshire is a not-for-profit business referral group with a single seat policy which meets fortnightly at this venue. Its members get to know each other and recommend business to each other as well as helping each other make good connections in the business community. The founder is Chris Pugh. A finger food buffet will be provided on the night (there&#x27;s a bar on site too) and it will involve some guided networking led by the PCW team in a round-table format ensuring everyone gets a chance to meet as many people and make as many new connections as possible. Our inspirational speaker is Eddie Edwards, also known as Eddie &#x27;the Eagle&#x27;, who was a British skier and Olympian who was the first Briton to compete in the Olympic ski jumping challenge. Born in Gloucestershire, he made his first attempt to join the British Olympic team in 1984, narrowly missing out on a place on the downhill skiing team. Resilient Eddie did not give up. Instead, he moved to the US and continued his training as a downhill skier, however, a lack of funding quickly put an end to this dream. Realising that there were no other British contestants for Olympic ski jumping, Eddie decided to pursue the ski jump event, making him the only possible GB candidate for the ’88 Games.
Eddie first represented Great Britain at the 1987 World Championships and ranked 55th in the world. He rapidly caught the attention of the British public during the 1988 Olympic Games. By the end of the Games, he was the best ski jumper in the UK, holding the record at 73.5 metres. T﻿here will be an opportunity to meet Eddie at the event and have photographs taken and there will also be a Q&amp;A following his talk. A professional photographer will be attending the event and local media will also be invited.
