Effective methods for using online open sources as investigative tools

This 2 day training course is an update for those that have previously completed open source intelligence training with Blackstage. The subject matter includes new techniques and social media platforms we’ve previously covered within the courses, as well as some updates to techniques and platforms previously learned. Delegates can use either the training PCs or bring their own laptops for the course

Course details: A two day intensive open source practical course aimed at updating delegates’ OSINT skills in understanding the Internet & social media and how to effectively search them for information and intelligence for investigation purposes

Topics include*:

  • Brief review of what has changed around online social media recently

  • Creating social media profiles for OSINT update

  • Advanced browser settings & techniques update

  • New tools for capturing data and creating reports

  • Virtual Machines for OSINT projects

  • Social media updates:

    • Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, VK.com (Eastern European/Russian) Pinterest

    • Exercise apps

    • Search engine search operators & advanced operators

      • Yandex (Russian), Bing & Duckduckgo

      • Reverse mobile phone number searches

      • Twitter analytics for social media profiling & investigations

      • Google Adsense and Google analytics

      • Building custom search engines

      • Android Emulators for investigations and profiling

      • Online maps update

      • Pastebins, Reddit and other forums

      • Dating sites

      • Consented data

      • New commercial tools for OSINT

Class size: Class sizes are restricted to a maximum of 12 delegates per 2 day course.

Requirements: To partake in the course, all delegates must already have completed OSINT training with Blackstage Forensics. Delegates have the option to bring a laptop computer or to use a desktop PC provided provided by us for the training.

Objective: To improve practical skills and knowledge to effectively carry out online investigations in a safe and structured manner. Delegates will also be provided with virtual machines to take away and use within investigations. Note: This course will run 9.00am until 5.00pm each day.

Pre-course preparation: No preparation is required, but if delegates already have passive investigative social media accounts and no-attributable email addresses, then they are welcome to use them on the course

Facilities: Each delegate will be given the use of an Internet-connected PC (unless the bring their own) for the duration of the course and they will be issued with electronic PDF copies of course materials. Lunch is provided, along with drinks at break times (please notify us beforehand of any special dietary needs). The venue is a 2 minute walk from Tamworth train station and there are public car parks opposite it. There are hotels within a 10 minute walk away

Cost: Cost per delegate is £595 + VAT for 2 days. Places are limited to 12!

Cancellations: Cancellations will be refunded 50% if cancelled 14 days or more before the training begins. If cancelled within 13 days or fewer before the event, then delegates will be charged the full amount
