Open Technology Week 8-15 June
Open technologies are becoming increasingly prevalent in many aspects of society. From cell phones' operating systems to high performance computing, open source software provides some of the most powerful tools to tackle today's challenges. Large scale projects such as Wikipedia have demonstrated that open standards and practice can be applied to knowledge in a general sense and deliver invaluable resources to the general public. The advance of Open Hardware systems such as Arduino, alongside advances in consumer-grade 3D printing technologies, is nowadays boosting the development of Maker communities in most parts of the world, progressively imposing a rethink of innovation and manufacturing techniques.
 
<H3>As part of the week the e-Luminate Foundation will host the Open Source Light Lab on 11th June 2016 at Makespace.</H3>
From 10 am participants will enjoy a series of talks and a showcase of light related installations exhibited in previous editions of the e-Luminate Cambridge Festival, including <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.e-luminatefestivals.co.uk/e-luminate-festival-2016/eventsandinstallations/lightquest/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LightQuest</A> which uses the Physical Web beacons.
Confirmed speakers include Francesco Anselmo, Senior Lighting Designer at <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.arup.com/services/lighting_design" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Arup</A> talking about <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.e-luminatefestivals.co.uk/e-luminate-festival-2016/eventsandinstallations/lightquest/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">LightQuest</A> project in partnership with <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.xicato.com/" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Xicato</A>; Roger Sexton from Xicato talking about Smart Lighting; Tony Howells, former Senior Policy Adviser at BIS talking about integrated communications in lighting;  Colin Ball from<A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.bdp.com" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> BDP </A>talking about his latest project: an open source LED wall placed in the hall of BDP's London office.
Come along from 10 am or drop in on the hour to hear a talk, discuss challenges and opportunities of open source technologies and share your projects.
