Open Studio - from Boro to Bookbinding

I am passionate about making books and  transforming everyday, remnant materials into unique and usable notebooks, journals sketchbooks and more experimental Artists' Books. I take much of my inspiration from nature and love experimenting with new stitches and creating workshops to share the joy of bookbinding with others.I regularly work in collaboration with other artists and community organisations across Scotland to devise fun and welcoming workshops, ensuring that everyone leaves with their own finished book and the skills to make many more.

Bookbinding with Cass

This Autumn, Eco Upcycler Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw and Bookbinder Cassandra Barron, invite you into their studios in Edinburgh and Glasgow, for a unique series of textile upcycling and bookbinding workshops.
The workshops will each explore a different technique that can be used to transform pre-loved denim, before using your creations to make a hard or soft-bound journal. 
Join us for one workshop or come along to all three for a monthly fix of creativity as the nights draw in.
In this workshop we will . . .
Get creative with denim and textile remnants, using the slow stitch technique of Boro - a form of decorative reinforcement stitching from Japan. Elisabeth wil guide you in using a range of fabric remnants, beads, buttons and fringing to create a unique handstitched piece. Cassandra will then help you bind together a book block and  trasform your creation into a functional book cover.
Tea, coffee and sweet treats will be provided and you are invited to bring your own lunch. All materials are included but you are invited to help with our recycling effort by bringing an old pair of jeans/or denim item ready to be recycled.
Class sizes will be kept small to allow for a decent sized work space and a relaxed workshop with the opportunity to get to know like-minded people.
This is a great opportunity to learn a range of new skills in a creative environment and produce a personalised book that makes for unique and usable sketchbook, journals and/or photo album - a great personal project or environmentally conscious present for a loved one.

**Spaces on this class are limited and there will be no refunds or transfers once a booking has been made, unless your place can be filled from a waiting list, in which case the full fee will be refunded. If the workshop is cancelled for any reason, you will be offered either a cash refund or the option of being transferred to an alternative event.**
