Event description

Description

This Autumn, Eco Upcycler Elisabeth Viguie Culshaw and Bookbinder Cassandra Barron, invite you into their very own artist studios in Glasgow and Edinburgh, for a unique series of textile upcycling and bookbinding workshops.

The workshops will each explore a different textile art technique inspired by Japanese tradition that can be used to transform pre-loved denim, before using your creations to make a hard or soft-bound journal.

So in good company and in inspiring surrounding you recycle something you have loved for a long while and you learn a new technique to make something unique and beautiful to cherish forever...

Join us for one workshop or come along to all three for a monthly fix of creativity as the nights draw in.

The beautiful books you will make would be perfect presents for Christmas or just treasures for yourself.

In this workshop we will . . .

Get creative with your denim (if you dont have one available we will supply) and textile remnants, using the slow stitch technique of Boro - a form of decorative reinforcement stitching from Japan. Elisabeth wil guide you in using some blue cloth brought back from South East Asia, beads, buttons and fringing to create a unique handstitched piece. Cassandra will then help you bind together a book block and trasform your creation into a functional book cover.

Tea, coffee and sweet treats will be provided and you are invited to bring your own lunch. All materials are included but you are invited to help with our recycling effort by bringing an old pair of jeans/or denim item ready to be recycled.

Class sizes will be kept small to allow for a decent sized work space and a relaxed workshop with the opportunity to get to know like-minded people.

This is a great opportunity to learn a range of new skills in a creative environment and produce a personalised book that makes for unique and usable sketchbook, journals and/or photo album - a great personal project or environmentally conscious present for a loved one.

If you have access requirements, please get in touch to discuss how we can support your visit.

**Spaces on this class are limited and there will be no refunds or transfers once a booking has been made, unless your place can be filled from a waiting list, in which case the full fee will be refunded. If the workshop is cancelled for any reason, you will be offered either a cash refund or the option of being transferred to an alternative event.**
