Looking at some of the tools and data available for understanding your local area...

There is now doubt that data has revolutionised the way that public policy is developed, how local needs are identified and community services delivered. Yet, data should be more than a tool for management – and there are now many initiatives and organisations from across public and private sectors, academia and civil society – that are developing tools to enable anyone to understand more about the places around them.We’ll be joined by: <ul><li>Sophie Wozmirska, <a href="https://communitywellbeing.coop.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Community Wellbeing Index Lead</a> at the Cooperative Group. Sophie will be introducing this UK-wide project that maps 28,000 communities to give insight about what’s important to people in these local communities.</li></ul><ul><li>Chris Pope, Principal for Digital Analytics at the <a href="https://www.greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Greater Manchester Combined Authority,</a> who will showcase the different types of data that can be found on <a href="https://mappinggm.org.uk" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">MappingGM</a>, from infrastructure to demographics.</li></ul><ul><li>Ahmad Barclay, architect and UX designer presently leading data visualisation work for the 2021 Census at the <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Office for National Statistics</a>. Ahmad will talk about data vis plans for Census 2021, particularly looking at recent experiments with &#x27;scrollytelling&#x27; format.</li></ul>Important information:This event will take place online via Zoom.
