A Sunday afternoon of readings, presentations and custom cocktails.

Megan Snowe will read a series of short texts that surround and approach a new play, “Sticky”. Laura Yuile will make a short presentation relating to the research she has conducted throughout the residency. Special Tears will read together in an attempt to contact a character who can dream with us but cannot dream for us.

Laura Yuile is an artist based in London, UK. She creates sculpture, video and performance that often employs everyday household debris, cooking ingredients, stock imagery and home-spun techniques of production exploring the boundaries between public and private space, the fetishisation of transience, and notions of displacement and transformation in relation to the invisible infrastructures that shape our existence. Previous exhibitions include World Interiors, Savoy Centre, Glasgow; The Capital, Vulpes Vulpes, London, England; Co-Pourri, Caustic Coastal, Manchester, England (2015); Welcome to Ecumenopolis, The Arts Foundations, Athens, Greece (2015); and Conversation of Monuments, Collective, Edinburgh, Scotland (2014). Residencies include Temporary Art Platform in Beirut (2014) and IOAM in Beijing (2013). In 2015 Yuile was an Associate Artist at Open School East, London, and in 2016 she has upcoming shows at Generator, Dundee, and Generation & Display, London.

Megan Snowe, a US based artist, works in a variety of mediums including installation, animation, text, sound and workshop. Snowe has recently been driven by questions of how we understand, strategise and quantify our immaterial and emotional lived experiences, critiquing various social strategies and subconscious behaviours that perpetuate inhibiting social norms. With a BA in Russian Studies & Studio Art from Oberlin College (2008) and an MFA in Time & Space Arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts (2014) Snowe has exhibited throughout Europe, the US and online.

Special Tears is a project by Cassandre Greenberg and Christopher Kirubi. The project will examine the trope of crying in its various iterations: as an expression of sadness and grief; as a manipulative affective tool; as a (mis-)gendered response; as a signifier of authenticity etc. The main motivation behind the project is a desire for the rethinking of femme identities beyond biological essentialism, and an unravelling of the narrative of the weak, hysterical femme body, who cries because she is at the bottom, imagining instead the possibility of crying as a way of getting to the bottom of things.
