Overview

Join us as we return once again to winter prune the fabulous community orchard in Abney Hall Park, Cheadle, Stockport.

Join us for a FREE, hands-on winter pruning session in one of Stockport’s much-loved community orchards where everyone is an 'Orchard Apprentice'.

This practical day is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to care for fruit trees, support local green spaces, and gain useful horticultural skills alongside friendly, like-minded people.

Guided by members of Manchester Fruit Tree Coop, you’ll learn the basics of winter pruning, how to care for heritage fruit trees, and how to spot common pests and diseases. No prior experience is needed — beginners are very welcome, as are those looking to refresh their knowledge.

🌿 All tools are provided, and we use professional horticultural equipment from brands including Niwaki, Silky and Opinel. You’re welcome to bring your own gardening gloves if you prefer. A full safety briefing will be given at the start, and a limited number of left-handed tools are available.

Refreshments provided (tea, coffee and snacks). Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
