A chance to build your orcharding skills and knowledge and help your local orchard thrive.

Overview

The Woodland Trust Scotland manages over 60 woodlands across Scotland, including Bellsquarry Wood and Orchard in West Lothian. Our vision is for a world where woods and trees thrive for people and nature.

On Saturday 14th Feb, we're teaming up with The Orchard Project to run a workshop on orchard maintenance. Topics will include winter pruning, pests and diseases and aftercare.


Meeting place

Please meet at Bellsquarry Village Hall (EH54 9AA). The exact What3Words location is https://w3w.co/inner.motel.spider.

We will be working outside in the community orchard for the whole session so prepare for the weather and bring suitable clothing and footware.


Parking

There is free parking available on Calder Road. Please be mindful of local residents when parking.


Access

There is a short walk (<10 mins) on uneven surface to the orchard from Bellsquarry Village Hall.


Facilities

There will be hot drinks provided but facilities are limited as we will be outside for the day with toilets nearby.


Extra things to know

  • No lunch provided, please bring your own provisions(lunch, water,snacks) for the day.
  • Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • No prior knowledge needed, just an enthusiasm for community orchards and the outdoors.
  • Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for extended time outdoors. Good waterproofs, walking boots and warm layers are advised.
