By Virginia Woolf Adapted by Neil Bartlett
Directed by Shani Erez
Performed by MA Acting Contemporary
Courtyard Theatre
In 1928, Virginia Woolf wrote Orlando as a love letter to Vita Sackville-West. In 2022, Neil Bartlett adapted the novel into a love letter to Woolf’s writing curiosity and to the magic of theatre.
Orlando is a fantastical story of a young man who travels through countries, centuries, lovers and genders before they finally find the courage to truly be themselves. Bartlett places a multitude of Virginias at the heart of the play, observing her own surprising creation, as Orlando runs to and from adventures.
In 2026, we step into Virginia as all of her step into Orlando, in a world that’s - like the character - radically changed and very much the same.
