<p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>Speakers</strong></strong></h3><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>David Fisher-Holt BEng MSc CEng InstMC</strong></strong></h3><h4>Cyber SIG Chair - Institute of Measurement &amp; Control</h4><p>With some 30+ years of experience within the Energy Sector, David has a breadth of practical experience in ICS/OT Lifecycle management from concept to decommissioning, including Cyber Security, Obsolescence management, and Functional Safety considerations.</p><p>David Graduated from RGU with a BEng in Electronics and Computing and later gained an MSc in Computer Science with Cyber Security from Wrexham Glyndwr University. Currently returning to study at RGU, undertaking an Engineering Doctorate ~ in Virtual Industrial Control Systems (VICS) utilising AI.</p><p><br></p><p>David is currently generating and leading the Industrial Cyber security management systems for a significant European Oil company. Covering aspects such NIS compliance while developing the Cyber Security Management Systems further.</p><p>Outside of work and study, self-confessed 'Petrolhead', both two and four-wheeled variants.</p><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>Dr Christopher McDermott</strong></strong></h3><h4>Robert Gordon University</h4><p>Dr. McDermott is a Computer Science lecturer with over 20 years of experience in Networking, Software Engineering, and Cybersecurity. He has taught a wide range of topics, including advanced data networks, systems programming and ethical hacking, and currently delivers modules on Network Security, Security by Design and Human-Centered Security. His research focuses on the human factors in security and the application of machine learning to security challenges such as intrusion detection. Recently, his work has expanded to include the development and protection of ontologies and knowledge graphs in security contexts, as well as the application of large language models in cybersecurity.</p><p><br></p><p>His talk will explore the challenges in securing operational technology, highlighting current research trends aimed at addressing these issues, including the use of AI and machine learning. He will also share opportunities for collaboration between industry and academia, emphasising the importance of partnerships in driving innovation and tackling emerging security challenges.</p><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>Myles Gowen </strong></strong><strong><strong>MEng CEng FSEng RFSE MInstMC</strong></strong></h3><h4>Systems Manager - Process Safety Solutions</h4><p>Myles Gowen is a Chartered Systems Engineer with over 15 years of experience within the Industrial Automation sector.</p><p>He has developed and supports the PSS Quality and Functional Safety Management Systems, and has recently taken on the support of the PSS Cyber Security Management System.</p><p>With the increased demand for OT Cyber Security in the past 10 years, Myles has led a number of major projects with Cyber Security at their core, including HMI system upgrades, network upgrades and OT / IT convergence projects. Myles has also conducted OT Cyber Audits, provides practical guidance to supported clients and attendees Cyber Security response exercises.</p><p><br></p><p>Myles’ talk will explore the history of risk mitigation for stand-alone package systems and work through a practical case study to reduce the risk of a legacy system.</p><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>Tjeerd Zwijnenberg</strong></strong></h3><h4>(Sales) Director Europe - Waterfall Security Solutions</h4><p>Tjeerd’s goal is to accelerate industrial and critical infrastructure companies that lag behind in the field of Industrial (OT) Cyber Security to become more resilient against outside attacks from nation states and ransomware gangs. He’s a member of the European Energy ISAC, engaged with largest CNI thru Europe and educating national authorities and regulators how to stay ahead of the ever-increasing cyber threat, and keep the lights on.</p><p>Prior to Waterfall, he worked for 20 years at OSIsoft (now part of AVEVA / SE) and Honeywell Process Solutions at the OT side of the business.</p><p>His background is Aviation Engineering in Amsterdam (BSc) and Technical Business Administration at the University of Eindhoven (MSc).</p><p><br></p><p>Advanced Network Segmentation based on Hardware Enforced solutions</p><p>Despite their growing significance in protecting industrial automation systems, unidirectional architectures are often not well understood, particularly by professionals with IT-centric backgrounds. Unidirectional architectures represent a true revolution in network cybersecurity, enabling use cases such as monitoring production and enabling secure remote access, while dramatically reducing the risk associated.</p><p>Unidirectional architectures, featuring at least one Unidirectional Gateway, provide enhanced security by permitting data flow in only one direction. The talk will explain how these architectures differ from traditional firewalls and highlight their role in safeguarding networks, emphasizing their growing relevance due to stricter segmentation requirements in sectors like pipelines and rail systems, the rise of ransomware and the emergence of industrial cloud solutions. The discussion will also cover different unidirectional architecture designs, their implementation and their significant advantages in improving network security in critical networks to support all of the current business needs in the industrial (OT) network.</p><p><br></p><h3><strong><strong>Euan Petrie</strong></strong></h3><h4>Lead Systems Engineer - PX Group</h4><p>Euan has over 14 years experience in hardware/software design, networking, control/safety systems and cybersecurity. Over these years Euan has gained a wealth of experience in both greenfield and brownfield developments, both on and offshore.</p><p>Currently in his role at PX Group he provides design assurance for projects and modifications as well furthering the cybersecurity posture of the OT domain. </p><p>At the symposium, Euan will discuss challenges from a duty holder/operator viewpoint surrounding compliance, risk and the human element of the OT cyber.</p>
