Building a Virtual Reality website
Embark on a thrilling adventure into Virtual Reality development.
This presentation is crafted to introduce you to the process of building an immersive VR website, leveraging the robust Unity game engine in conjunction with open-source tools. We will discuss how these VR experiences can be made as accessible as conventional web pages, easily viewable via web browser.
Everyone is welcome to join. No prior experience in VR or programming is needed.
About Maciej:
Maciej has a keen interest in Virtual Reality (VR). His journey into VR began in 2016 at Adlens, a startup based in Oxford, where he contributed to the development of a cutting-edge optical system for next-generation AR/VR headsets. This project was part of a research initiative funded by Facebook Reality Labs, which ignited Maciej's enthusiasm for crafting his own immersive VR experiences. He then took the initiative to learn Unity Game Engine and explore the WebXR API to bring his ideas to life.
In 2020, Maciej co-founded a startup with a mission to create accessible VR websites. The team made progress in 2021 by developing a VR experience leveraging blockchain technology, which caught the attention from the Dfinity Foundation. Recognizing the potential of their work, the foundation awarded them grants to continue development and make their project's code open-source. By November 2023, they had launched ICVR, an open-source framework designed to simplify the creation of VR websites on the ICP blockchain, making it accessible even to those without prior coding experience.
Maciej's commitment to sharing knowledge led him to focus on educating others about using the ICVR framework. In 2024, he partnered with Demo Corporation, a game studio located in Bangkok, Thailand. Together, they hosted VR workshops across 16 universities in Bangkok, engaging over 500 students who collectively deployed more than 100 VR websites.
Maciej is currently engaged in facilitating an immersive VR course for the dacade.org learning platform.
