<h3>Event Overview</h3>Paediatric IBD patients and families are warmly invited to attend a free family event at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People from 1.00 – 4.00pm in the Seminar Room, Child Life and Health (4th Floor).Get a chance to speak to Scotland’s leading inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) scientists and research clinicians. Ask your paediatric IBD questions, participate in family activities and crafts, hear about the latest research, and tour the state-of-the-art research laboratories and facilities at Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP).This event&#x27;s talks, activities, and tours are best suited to children and families aged 6 years and older; but all infants are also welcome with their parent/caregiver. Crafts and activities will be run by the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC) for those children and young people less interested in listening to and participating in research discussions. Tea, coffee, juice, and snacks will be provided.Free parking is available in carparks beside the Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.<h3>More Information</h3>The Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis, are complex immune-mediated conditions that are becoming increasingly common. Although we have better treatments, they are currently incurable. Learn about how our research has shown that Scotland has one of the highest rates of paediatric and adult IBD in the world, and how IBD is set to affect 30 million individuals globally by 2025.Join us to hear about our Science-to-Individual research program in Edinburgh, where scientists and clinical researchers are finding ways to better understand the causes of inflammation and how to repair and heal the gut damaged by IBD. Get a chance to speak to Scotland’s leading IBD research clinicians and scientists. As well as asking your paediatric IBD questions, you will hear about our ‘all-ages’ scientific research and how our recent laboratory discoveries have led to new clinical drug trials. Hear about the exciting Mini-MARVEL study - a new paediatric IBD drug trial, launching from Edinburgh across the UK. Listen to the shared experiences of an IBD research participant and an IBD PPI (patient and public involvement) member about how they contribute to IBD research. Be the first to hear about our future innovative IBD research directions. Plus tour the state-of-the-art research laboratories and patient clinical research facilities at Edinburgh’s RHCYP. This event hopes to foster new relationships with patients and families, leading to a better understanding of how to meet the needs of patients, as well as spreading the word about the RHCYP and the University of Edinburgh’s cutting-edge IBD research.<h3>Event Programme</h3>Edinburgh&#x27;s Children&#x27;s Hospital Charity will host crafts and activities for interested young people throughout the event and during both talk sessions.<ul><li>13:00-13:15: Registration and arrivals</li><li>13:15-13:45: Research Updates, Discussion, Questions and Answers</li><li>13:45 – 14:15: Break #1: Tea, coffee, juice, snacks &amp; informal discussions: Opportunities for crafts, activities, and informal Q&amp;A with IBD clinician researchers and scientists</li><li>14:15 – 14:45: Research Updates, Discussion, Questions and Answers continued </li><li>14:45—15:00: Brief Break #2 – Tea, coffee, juice, snacks &amp; informal discussions </li><li>15:00 – 15:50: Interactive tour and activities in the RHCYP research and science facilities: Small tour groups will be able to get hands-on in a state-of-the-art research laboratory and meet IBD scientists. Tours will also visit the new clinical research facilities and meet research nurses within the new RHCYP Edinburgh.</li><li>15:50-16:00: Conclusion, thank you, and farewell</li></ul>Speakers will include: Professor David Wilson (Paediatric IBD specialist), Professor Richard Russell (Paediatric IBD specialist), Dr Gwo-tzer Ho (IBD research scientist), Michelle Wilson (Paediatric Research Associate), IBD patient and public involvement (PPI) representatives, among others.This event is held in partnership with The University of Edinburgh, The Jon Moulton Foundation, the Department of Child Life and Health, the Centre for Inflammation Research, and the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.<h3>Covid-19 Information</h3>Covid-19 precautions will be in place at this event. The venue has good ventilation and hand hygiene stations. If anyone has symptoms of Covid-19 we kindly ask they do not attend.
