Pain Coach Workshop

I have been working with people suffering chronic pain and health issues for over 20 years in different settings, including the NHS, sport, business and private healthcare.I am Chartered Physiotherapist with a background in nursing, rehabilitation, coaching and pain sciences. In 1999, I set up theSpecialist Pain Physio Clinicsto focus on helping people who are suffering chronic pain, persistent pain, recurring injuries and complex conditions to improve their lives using practical knowledge, skills, training and treatment.Over the past 10 years I have pioneered The Pain Coach Programme. This is a blend of the latest pain science,  where I keep an academic foothold, with strengths-based coaching that uses the habits of peak performance to achieve success. The Programme offers a comprehensive and positive approach to understand pain and live a fulfilling life.In 2015 I co-founded the social enterpriseUnderstand Painwith a then patient suffering CRPS. The purpose of UP is to raise awareness of the problem of pain, the No1 global health burden, and to help people improve their lives by giving them practocal knowlegde and skills. One of the main projects is#upandrunthat combines my ultrarunning with UP Workshops.

<H2>The Pain Coach Workshop </H2>
<H3>Understand pain to get results with chronic, complex and persistent pain ~ the true biopsychosocial approach </H3>
<P>The Pain Coach Workshop gives you knowledge, skills, tools and treatment techniques to build on your existing practice, specifically for persistent and complex pain.</P>
<P>Transform your practice with results-based coaching together with the latest treatment approaches for chronic pain.</P>
<P>This is an experiential workshop, so be prepared to take action and get involved!</P>
<P>On completion, you will take away a box of great tools to use with your patients and to follow your MAP — mastery, autonomy &amp; purpose. </P>

<H4>What do we do?</H4>
<P>1. Understand pain in a practical way ~ including current pain science + philosophy, pain models you can use to understand pain, true biopsychosocial approaches, influences, vulnerabilities, placebo. It’s the person who suffers pain and hence it is the whole person we work with to enable change.</P>
<P>2. Practices, treatments, training, coaching and delivering the know-how -- getting results with specific sensorimotor training, mobilising + nourishing with 'motion is lotion', building energy, engaging, mindfulness, imagery, visualisation, focusing, motivators, primers, hands-on treatment, practical mindfulness, strengths-based coaching, supporting + encouraging change, gathering momentum, and putting it all together into a bespoke programme.</P>
<P>3. Pain Coaching and being an encourager ~ strengths based coaching methods; how to become a trusted advisor to encourge, inspire, enable and empower patients (people) so that they can achieve their picture of success: eg/ return to play, peak performance; communication, language, scripting, teaching self-coaching.</P>
<P>4. Structuring sessions to optimise outcomes: e.g./ creating the therapeutic environment, communication, language, deep listening, compassion</P>
<P>5. Practical examples: eg/ back pain, RSI, fibromyalgia, pelvic pain, tendinopathy, CRPS. Bring your tricky cases along for discussion so you can go back to your practice and make a difference straight away.</P>
<P>6. Reach your potential: develop your approach to pain by clarifying your purpose, building on your strengths, disrupting patterns that limit your success, and focusing on how you can use your language, communication and style to get results. Practices for self-care, focus, commitment to on-going improvement (kaizen), development and growth of you as an individual and a clinician, together with empathy, compassion and gratitude. Best care starts with you and how you care for yourself.</P>
<P>7.  Learn vital practices for self-care and self-coaching to maximise your potential as an outstanding clinician. Getting the best of your patients starts with getting the best of you; feel awesome about what you do by lunchtime! </P>
<P>8. A day of practices and experiences interwoven into interactive learning, discussion &amp; participation. It’s experiential! And playful!  </P>
<P>** There are a number of new sections and practices including ‘hypnotic hands’ and state changers. Learning to change state to achieve peak and best states is a vital life skill, and to face and transform suffering. </P>

<H4>Chronic pain in the modern world</H4>
<P>Chronic pain is the number 1 global health burden (Vos et al., 2012) associated with enormous suffering (e.g./ 100 million Europeans) and costs (€441bn ~ SIP, 2017). This is a social issue of 'epidemic' proportions and change can only happen in society, which is why I have set up a social enterprise with a vision of such change, <A HREF="http://www.understandpain.com/" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="UP | Understand Pain" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Understand Pain</A>, or UP ~ a world that understands pain. When you attend a Pain Coach Workshop, you are contributing to this work by deepening your understanding and practice to share the right messages, and a proportion of the income goes towards the Understand Pain Workshops for people in need and the next generation.</P>
