Learn to create painterly printed textiles with Olivia Howick. An exciting new workshop hosted by designer Olivia Howick at 3rd Rail Print.

This workshop demonstrates the potential of using disperse dyes to create vibrant, fun and unique pattern and texture on fabrics. You will learn how to paint with disperse dyes and transfer these to synthetic fabrics using a heat press. The day will guide you through how to use this technique to create printed textiles with your own unique design handwriting, using a variety of techniques to create pattern and texture. You will start right from the beginning, understanding the colour range of the dyes and testing these on a variety of fabrics, through to creating your own set of samples. You will also have the opportunity to transform your new skills to create your own printed cushion cover to take away with you on the day!Olivia Howick is a designer specialising in Colour, Material and Finish. Olivia has taught classes at The London Embroidery Studio for the past three years and has just completed her MA in Printed Textiles at the Royal College of Art. Olivia has vast experience within the fashion industry and education having taught in secondary schools in London, as well as acting as a visiting lecturer on BA Textiles programmes at AUB and LCF.This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in printed textiles or wants to learn something new!All materials will be provided, please bring an apron, a notepad and pen/pencil, and any visual inspiration you may want to use such as postcards, print-outs or mood boards on your phone!The workshop will run from 10am – 4pm with an hour break for lunch (not provided).Cancellation Policy: I am currently running workshops on a much smaller scale and whilst I appreciate Covid may stop you from coming I’m afraid I employ a strict 10 day cancellation policy. Any cancellations made less than days 10 days before the event will be non-refundable. I am an independent designer and unfortunately can’t afford to have empty spaces within these workshops. Currently within 10 days of the workshop I cannot refund or move dates for any cancellations made due to personal reasons or Covid. I hope you can understand this as being an independent designer I would hate to stop running workshops due to then not being full. If you don’t feel this policy works for you I would ask to wait and book in the future when I can be more flexible. Thank You.
