Event: PathLAKE Plus AI Showcase When and Where: An all-day Institute of Precision Diagnostics event to be held on Wednesday the 20th of September 2023 in the Clinical Sciences Building at UHCW Purpose/What to expect: This showcase looks to not only mark the achievements of PathLAKE Plus but to spearhead the launch of our national initiative to bring AI into cellular pathology workstreams. The day will feature AI workshops, that offer a hands-on interactive experience with AI solutions, and a series of presentations around their deployment within laboratory workflows across the country. AI solutions for the following use cases will feature in the afternoon workshops: prostate, breast, PDL-1 lung and LN metastasis. Target Audience: NHS pathologists and cellular pathology leads, particularly those that might be looking to adopt AI in the next few years and would like to gain insights into how best to approach their deployments.Keynote speaker: Dr Colin Wilson – Deputy Director, Research Infrastructure, Office for Life Sciences. Colin leads OLS’s work to ensure the UK's research infrastructure can best support life sciences, including genomics, data for R&D and clinical research. He also leads the Life Sciences Vision cancer mission, supporting the development of new diagnostics and immune-based therapies. Following a PhD in physics, he initially joined the Home Office where he helped develop technology for UK security and policing and later worked on operational security, counter-terrorism and organised crime. He moved to the Office for Life Sciences in 2020. https://www.linkedin.com/in/colin-wilson-34215654 About PathLAKE Plus: The PathLAKE Plus project is supported by funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) through UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) data to early diagnosis challenge in 2018, alongside additional scale-up funding for the digital pathology and imaging AI programme from the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC). The project started in Jan 2021 and facilitated the digitalisation of cellular pathology workflows of 23 NHS Trusts, making new digital cellular pathology workflows available to 1/3 of England’s population. PathLAKE Plus is now beginning to rollout AI across those same Trusts, on a clinical scale never before seen in the NHS, an event that is being marked by the AI showcase. Testing ﻿the limits of AI : The event features several AI workshops that offer a hands on experience of the AI tools themselves but it also has several activities for attendees to complete, designed to help familiarise potential users with these new technologies and tackle any misconceptions about their use. These tasks are as follows: 1) "Challenge the AI "- We invite pathologist to test their most challenging breast and prostate cases against the AI, to see how it handles the toughest of cases. 2﻿) "Diagnostic bingo" - PathLAKE Plus will provide interested attendees with access to a portfolio of anonymised images and reports to be used with each of the AI solutions. Collectively these cases will feature all the key diagnostic features that you need the AI to report on. It has been confirmed that this event has been approved by the Royal College of Pathologists for 4 CPD credits (excluding refreshment breaks).Medical staff and clinical scientists in career grade posts who are enrolled with one of the Royal Colleges for CPD purposes and attend the meeting will be entitled to receive CPD credits, once attendance has been validated via a certificate of attendance.
