Pause, breathe, click: a photowalk inspiring new perspectives

Join me for an interactive photowalk, beginning and ending at Whitespace gallery!

Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned pro, this event is perfect for anyone looking to explore their photography skills and see the world differently through their images.

Bring along any kind of camera - from the one on your phone to a DSLR. The workshop is not about creating formal, camera club images.... it is about becoming present to what is present.

Intrigued? Excited? Perhaps you are drawn to follow an instinctive moment of 'That's for me'!?

We will begin with introducing ourselves and talk about the concept of photography with presence (sometimes called mindful photography).

After that, we will go out with cameras, maybe meeting along the way, or for others, relishing the short solo adventure.

We'll reconvene at Richmond Cafe to share our experiences and images over a warm drink before walking back to Whitespace (4 minutes) to collect your complimentary Zine 'Pause, Breathe, Click - Photography with presence'.

Wrap up warm! Get ready to open yourself to noticing the neighbourhood in new ways.

Connect with other people, be inspired through a different kind of relationship with yourself and your image-making.

See you there!

INCLUDED IN PRICE - Warm drink at Richmond Cafe!

This workshop is part of the Zero to 50 exhibition: Navigating Life at Whitespace EH8 9HQ

Everyone is welcome to the Opening Evening on Fri 21 Nov 2025 from 6pm

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an experienced photographer?

Not at all! You can be a complete beginner. All you need is to be curious about this approach and willing to give it a go

Will this cover the basics of how a camera works

No. We wont be using any of the special functions of today's sophisticated cameras. We will focus on being present and creating images.

I'm an experienced photographer. Will this be too basic for me?

I imagine, if you are reading this, something has already piqued your curiosity. Photography with presence (mindful photography) focusses on the internal state of the photographer, and the quality of connection with the world. Is this something that speaks to you?

Will we go outside?

Yes! November in Edinburgh can be chilly and maybe even wet. please take the weather into consideration and wrap up warm! And remember, the rain produces beautiful reflections, dark mornings create interesting shadows.... and so all weather is an invitaiton for image makers :-)

How many people will be in the group?

Maximum 8 people so that we get a chance to share our thoughts together

What if I arrive late?

You will miss the focus and guidance for the session, and the connection with the group. You may be able to find us as we won't walk far. I will do my best to update you on where we are up to, but I can't promise, as I might be engaged with other participants.

Zero to 50 showcases 3rd age creatives working in photography, art, film, directing, performance, poetry and more.

By becoming visible ourselves and presenting our creative work, we challenge outdated stereotypes of ageing, celebrate late-life creativity, and bring attention to the rich intersectionality of lived experience — including culture, gender, sexuality, class, and identity and more. Our lives are present in our work and are not separate - our creativity often amplifying and extending our previous careers and interests in surprising, fresh ways.

Our website features the work of emerging 3rd age creatives, many of whom come together for joint projects — including our first group exhibition at Whitespace Gallery, Edinburgh from 21 November 2025. Through workshops, and collaborative projects, we create spaces for connection, dialogue, and recognition.

We welcome new 3rd age creatives to join our project! Contact hello@zeroto50.co.uk
