Event description
What if you took a 30-minute break to engage deeply with art? Join us for a live guided session of slow looking at one artwork.

About this event

Pause Look Relax by Limina Collective

Pause Look Relax invites you to take a meaningful pause in your day, refresh the senses and engage with art – leaving you feeling nourished and elevated.

In each session we explore a different artwork selected from a world-class museum collection. Artists may include Vermeer, Kandinsky, Leonardo da Vinci, Heda, Mauve, Matisse, Hepworth and Vuillard. We bring the slow-looking museum experience to the quiet and stillness of your home or work space.

After a short mindfulness practice to settle the mind and prepare for looking, you will be introduced to an artwork and guided to look closely, with focus and curiosity . The session is rounded off with some art historical context and discussion.

Pause Look Relax is delivered via Zoom: on booking you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the session.

All welcome: no previous experience of mindfulness or art-viewing is necessary. This is an opportunity to slow down, absorb and connect in the company of like-minded people. Pause Look Relax is a live, guided event.

Faciliated by Lucia van der Drift or Karly Allen

Lucia van der Drift is a teacher and writer in mindfulness, meditation and Buddhism, with a keen interest in aesthetic appreciation. She has been practising mindfulness for over 20 years, and has been teaching mindfulness and meditation in different settings for over 15 years. Along with Karly Allen and Clare Barton-Harvey, Lucia founded Limina Collective in 2018 from a shared love for combining mindfulness practices with art engagement.

Karly Allen is a lecturer in art history and mindfulness teacher. She has taught widely for British collections and cultural organisations over the past 20 years, including the National Gallery, Wallace Collection and the Royal Collection, where she was formerly Education Manager. In recent years, Karly has integrated her mindfulness training into her work with art museums. She is inspired by the potential for mindfulness practices to enrich the viewing of art, and since 2018 she has developed this work as co-founder of Limina Collective.

Limina Collective is based in the UK and works directly with art museums including the British Museum, the Wallace Collection and the Royal Academy, as well as with individuals and groups. See www.liminacollective.com for more information on our work.
