Pegasus Choir: Reflections 1918/2018

Pegasus is one of London's most versatile chamber choirs, with a repertoire embracing sacred and secular music from the Renaissance to contemporary commissions. Pegasus performs with leading instrumental ensembles, vocal soloists and conductors. Its regular collaborations with the London Handel Orchestra include Bach'sChristmas Oratorioin November 2017, and two staged performances of Handel'sAcis and Galateaat St John's Smith Square in March 2018.In 2013 Pegasus won the Chamber Choir prize at the Florilège Vocal de Tours International Choral Competition in France, along with a special award for its performance of the music of Francis Poulenc. The choir has been featured on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and Channel 4. Its second CD,For the Fallen: Music from the time of the Great War, is released on the Signum Classics label on November 2.

Pegasus Chamber Choir

Award-winning Pegasus Choir presents a free, hour-long concert, featuring music of remembrance and homecoming as we approach the centenary of the armistice that ended the First World War. Our programme also highlights the art of the choral arranger.
Works with direct connections to the Great War by Rachmaninov and Douglas Guest are joined by reflections on loss by Francis Poulenc and Judith Bingham. We remember Claude Debussy, too, in the centenary of his death.
Our programme also celebrates innocence and serenity, in soaring choral arrangements of some of the loveliest songs and orchestral melodies of Dvorak, Elgar, Mahler and Ravel.
Our concert, conducted by Matthew Altham, takes place in the beautiful 18th-century surroundings of St George’s Church, Hanover Square. Several works on the programme feature on Pegasus’s new CD, For the Fallen: Music from the Time of the Great War, which will be available for purchase after the concert.
Admission is free, with a retiring collection to help defray the costs of the concert.
