Do join the 2018 Cam Valley Forum Pennywort Pulling Working Party. Spend an afternoon in good company beside or on the delightful river Cam between Cambridge and Grantchester, helping eradicate the invasive weed Floating Pennywort from the river and its surroundings.
We will be working in small groups on the river (in canoes) or from the bank (tell us your preference) lifting out Floating Pennywort and putting it somewhere dry to die. At this time of year Floating Pennywort should still be in small patches and easy to remove with rakes, nets or by hand: we'll show you how to do it. This is an important part of its eradication, because if not removed, by the autumn the little pieces will have grown into huge mats that clog the river from bank to bank, deoxygenating the water, crowding out native species and harming fish.
By registering in advance you help us plan the day, and you'll get a reminder. ... and we can let you know if we have to postpone (eg because of the weather) 
If you have canoes or kayaks you can bring, that would be particularly useful. We will also have some places in canoes for those without their own water craft, but will give priority to those that have booked and come early!
Programme
1:30 pm: Registration, formation of groups and briefing
2:00pm:  Groups head off to pull pennywort. 
5pm - 6:30pm: All participants are invited to drinks and snacks  
6:30pm end

Note that this will be starting shortly after the end of the <A HREF="http://www.hamiltonsfitness.co.uk/camswim.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cambridge Swim Picnic</A> which will be taking place nearby, so if you're really keen you can do both!
