Take advantage of this unique opportunity to hear from Professor Marshall Ganz in-person.
In his new book, People, Power, Change (2024), (which those in attendance will receive a copy of as part of the session) Professor Marshall Ganz draws from decades of teaching, research and organising to provide invaluable insights for leaders, practitioners and activists on how to create collective action for lasting change.
People, Power, Change distils a half-century’s worth of insights into an urgent call for strengthening democracy. Written in the tradition of classics like Saul Alinsky’s 1972 Rules for Radicals, Ganz’s transformational book is at once a practical guide on how to reclaim democratic power and an inspiring manifesto for collective organizing as an essential driver of democracy.
Ganz’s message – that lasting and meaningful change only happens if people come together for a shared purpose, deliberate together, and act together – has never been more resonant for those working in Health and Care. Join Marshall, in conversation with Sarah Woolnough and Suzie Bailey to explore what this means for our work across six domains: relationship building, storytelling, strategising, acting, structuring, and developing leadership.
About Professor Marshall Ganz
Marshall Ganz has dedicated his life to empowering individuals to create the change they wish to see in the world. His remarkable journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to social justice and grassroots organising.
Marshall's activism began with the civil rights movement, where he stood alongside Bob Moses and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, advocating for equality and justice. His passion for social change led him to work with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers for 16 years, where he played a pivotal role in championing the rights of farm workers.
Marshall's expertise in grassroots organising caught the attention of political leaders, and he contributed to Nancy Pelosi’s first campaign and Jerry Brown’s campaign. His strategic brilliance was further demonstrated when he crafted the grassroots strategy for President Obama’s historic 2008 election campaign.
For over two decades, Marshall has been imparting his knowledge and experience to future leaders at Harvard’s Kennedy School. His teachings have inspired countless individuals to pursue their own paths in activism and leadership, ensuring that his legacy of empowerment and change continues to thrive.
Marshall Ganz's life is a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have when they dedicate themselves to the service of others and the pursuit of a more just world.
