What is going on?It’s 2030, A plume of dust and debris clouds the Nottingham skyline as Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station’s last cooling tower crumples like an over-dipped biscuit.... FLASHBACK to 2022, it’s our workshop: you are invited to creatively challenge the proposals for the future of Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station before it’s too late. We are inviting you to become an urban designer, proposing a potential new use for the site by visualising your idea, you will hold in your hands the potential to save the cooling towers from future demolition. What will your future Nottingham Skyline look like? Come and join us on a creative journey where you get to play the architect re-imagining a 115m cooling tower!Why should you care?Power Stations are one of the archetypal causes of climate change, yet they are a structure that also evidences a unique era of our coal consuming civilisation – but, sites like Ratcliffe-on-Soar are at risk of being erased from our landscapes, memories and thus our history. What will future generations remember about the most pollutive generation in history? How will they connect with the titans of pollution and their cultural consequences?

What should I bring?Please bring yourself and your creativity! Materials will be provided on the day.Who can come?The workshop is free to attend and is suitable for all ages. Who is running the workshop?The workshop is facilitated by Architectural Designer William Harvey and artist Ryan Boultbee, two creatives obsessed with the built environment. they have recently written an <a href="https://www.leftlion.co.uk/read/2022/january/future-of-ratcliffe-on-soar-power-station/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">article for Leftlion</a> about why Ratcliffe-on-Soar is the focus of their current creative collaberation. Green Light in the City (<a href="https://greenlightnottingham.co.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">greenlightnottingham.co.uk</a>) will host and deliver the event - a new pop-up collaborative space for conversations and creativity around climate change, is open on Bridlesmith Gate. This exciting new project is delivered by a broad-ranging partnership involving both of Nottingham’s Universities, Nottingham City Council’s Carbon Neutral Nottingham 2028 team, and local education and arts organisations and charities including ChalleNGe, Ignite!, and Green Hustle. We hope the space will provide an exciting opportunity for members of the public to get helpful information and share ideas about the city’s green future.
