Spike Island supports, produces and presents contemporary art and culture across an 80,000 square foot former industrial building in Bristol. Its diverse artistic programme includes free major exhibitions, events and engagement activities taking place on-site and online. Championing outstanding work by emerging and underrepresented local, national and international artists, the programme enhances access to contemporary art for audiences from all backgrounds.Alongside its public offer, Spike Island directly supports artists through new commissions, over 70 subsidised studios, and sector-leading artist development opportunities that widen access to its programme and facilities. Its Exhibition Services business supports the bespoke production and installation of artists’ film and video throughout the UK and internationally. Spike Island is home to a dynamic community of hundreds of artists and creative businesses, working in flexible, affordable workspaces, alongside UWE Bristol’s Fine Art department, Spike Print Studio, and café bar Emmeline.

As part of his exhibition, Giles Round has invited performance artist, poet and choreographer Alex Cecchetti to present a new work in the galleries.

About Alex Cecchetti
<P CLASS="MsoNormal" STYLE="background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Alex Cecchetti (1977-2014) was an artist, a poet and a choreographer. Difficult to classify, his work can be considered as the art of the un-representable. Tactile and poetic, aesthetic and materialistic, it creates mental and physical environments which exist inside and outside our continuum. The artist died for the first time in 2014 for unknown reasons. He continues to produce new works, present new performances and publish new poems.  
<P CLASS="MsoNormal" STYLE="background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Cecchetti has exhibited internationally having solo exhibitions at Kunstraum, London (2015), Contemporary Art Centre (CAC), Vilnius, Lithuania (2012) and Jue de Paume, Paris, (2011) and solo performances at Serpentine Galleries, London (2015), Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2014), MAXXI museum, Rome (2012). Recently the Palais de Tokyo in Paris dedicated him a day of carte blanche. Next solo exhibitions CCA Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw (Poland) and Ferme du Buissons (France).
About the exhibition Giles Round, They bow. Curtain. No applause.  8 April to 18 June 2017  Giles Round works across disciplines and engages with a variety of materials, processes and collaborators to address the relationship between art, design and functionality.
