Arts Canteen is delighted to invite you to ‘Performance Desperately in Need of an Audience’ by the Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation on Sunday 17th June @ The Court Theatre - Hoxton.
This is a tale of exile, into the world where thousands chose to bear the burden of migration, leaving behind their homes and loved ones, in the hopes of finding themselves human again beyond the seas.
This silent performance bends the rules of puppet theatre, as stage props and settings becomes puppets as well. From the farm animals cowering in the villages, to the raining missiles and overhead airplanes, to the little suitcase that’s all packed up but refuses to leave.
This performance by the Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation, supported by the Arab British Centre, that employs humour, lightness, magic, playfulness and satire to consider this tragic, beyond the purely tragic or dramatic. In doing so, the horrors of exile are rendered more accessible and touching.
About APTF:
The Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation (APTF) was founded in 2008 as a non-profit organization with the mission to encourage puppetry practices throughout the Arab world, advance new developments in the field, and function as an established puppetry school and theatre. The initiative is a first of its kind, serving as a school and establishing a strong network of international puppeteers.
