Join us for an evening of multi-sensorial performance by composer and performer Jake Mehew exploring transformational qualities of sound and neurodivergent perceptibility as an (in)audible archive. As part of All the Birds Sing Bass, this performance utilises microscopic visual stimuli and video synthesis and improvised sound design to think about the perceptibility exists outside the realm of our somatic and sensory experiences. Mehew says, ‘The project came about through a realisation that I have escaped diagnosis for autism and far-sightedness until adulthood. I began to question sensory stimuli that I once took for granted and thought this would make for interesting ground to explore in a multi-sensory art piece.’ About the eventFree for all.Limited Capacity.Booking is required.The duration of the event is one hour. Jake's work combines principles of free improvisation, with the technological considerations of the avant-garde. Jake uses a combination of acoustic instruments, modular synthesisers and samplers to create rich, meditative soundscapes that envelope the audience within an immersive quadraphonic sound field. Jake has collaborated with artists such as Suzanne Ciani, Soccer 96, The Comet Is Coming, Sunda Arc, Arooj Aftab, Matthew Halsall, Mdou Moctar and Mabe Fratti. Jake has performed at Gilles Peterson's We Out Here Festival, has exhibited work for the Leeds International Piano Festival 2021 and has submitted digital work which was broadcast as part of an international programme for Nils Frahm's Piano Day 2021.
