Pig Programme Induction

Pig Programme Induction

Oxford City FarmOxford, England
Saturday, Apr 11 from 2 pm to 4 pm
Overview

Join us for an overview of raising rare breed pigs - this is the first step to joining our Pig Programme.

As a pig volunteer, you will be expected to come to at least one shift a week at either 0800 or 1800. On your shift you will feed the pigs, refill their water, check their shelter and fences, and clean up any of their waste in the pen. This training will teach you how to do all of these tasks and look after their wellbeing, even if you have never looked after livestock before. You'll be joining around 30 other households in raising these pigs and many other volunteers who come to the farm every morning and evening to look after the pigs, poultry, goats, and sheep.

This session is designed to give you a clear understanding of what’s involved and whether the programme is right for you. Please join this training if you would like to join our pig programme, raising three rare breed pigs over the year that will go to the abattoir sometime in late autumn. As a volunteer, you would have first choice of any meat that comes back from the abattoir at a discount from what we sell to the public.

The training is completely free and the programme is free to join as well. If you would like to have meat at the end of the year, we ask for a £45 deposit which is a credit for the meat available. This helps us offset the costs for the programme. However, if you do not want meat later, there is no need to pay.

We look forward to having you as part of the farm community and sharing all about our rare breed Oxford Sandy and Black Pigs!
