Pinhole camera photography: Workshop

Pinhole camera photography: Workshop

The Social Hub MaastrichtMaastricht
Sunday, Jan 25, 2026 from 2 pm to 5 pm CET
Overview

Create a camera from a tin can and capture your first handmade photo! All materials included. No experience needed. 2.5–3 hrs of magic!

🔘 Pinhole Camera Workshop
Step back to the roots of photography! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll build our own pinhole cameras using old tin cans. No lens, no screen — just light, a tiny hole, and a piece of photographic paper. Capture beautifully raw and unpredictable images, and discover the magic of truly slow photography.

Workshop: Build Your Own Pinhole Camera (and take your first photo!)
Join us for a playful and experimental dive into the world of pinhole photography — the most stripped-down way to capture an image. No lens, no digital tools, just light entering through a tiny hole onto light-sensitive paper.

We’ll begin with a short introduction to the basics of the camera obscura and how a pinhole camera works. Then we’ll create our own cameras using recycled tin cans — each one unique. You'll learn how to create the pinhole, insert the paper, seal the camera, and get it ready to shoot.

Once our cameras are built, we’ll head outside (or to a setup location) to take a photo. Afterwards, we’ll develop the images together in a small darkroom space and see what we’ve captured. No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a love for making.

You’ll learn:
• The principles of pinhole photography
• How to build your own working camera from recycled materials
• How to take and develop an analog photo by hand
• And most importantly: how to slow down and really see your image
All materials provided
No experience required
Duration: approx. 2.5 to 3 hour
