What is Plaster Works?We’ve partnered with sustainable design studio, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/goodwaste___/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Good Waste</a> and Waltham Forest Council to deliver another innovative public making experience: Plaster Works. This time the focus is on highlighting the hidden potential of local building waste material, showcasing the design potential of recycled plasterboard. What will be happening?During the October half-term and at weekends, we'll be hosting a fun hands-on making experience for adults and children. Participants will crush, mix and create their own unique material to be moulded into a decorative bowl, gaining an insight into the power of transforming mundane waste. Please note, each individual attendee will require their own ticket.Why Plaster?The Plaster Works project is inspired by research into local waste streams which identified skips full of plasterboard, destined for landfill. Exploring how this under-valued and abundant material could be recycled, Good Waste and Blackhorse Workshop have developed a process to extract the plaster powder creating a new plaster type material with many applications. Influenced by Scagliola, a traditional 17th century Italian plaster technique, local pigments from other discarded construction materials, such as brick dust are added to create a stunning new material with a beautiful marble finish. This material has been used to design the shop’s interior and furniture elements to showcase its potential.  Where is it taking place?228 Chingford Mount Rd, London E4 8JLHow do I get there?London Overground trains operate regularly from Liverpool Street to Chingford.The 158 bus runs from Stratford to Chingford Mount via Blackhorse Road station.From Chingford station: Chingford Mount is a short 10 minute bus ride on the 97 bus, departing from Chingford Station Rd, The Green.Please note, each attendee requires a ticket, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. The activity is not suitable for children under 5.

Plaster Works challenges us to re-think about the materials that surround us every day and to see the value where others see waste. The project has been kindly supported by LB Waltham Forest, Arts Council England and material support from the Suez Group, specialists in Waste Management.
