Following the Software Carpentry curriculum, this lesson teaches novice programmers to write modular code to perform data analysis using Python. The emphasis, however, is on teaching language-agnostic principles of programming such as automation with loops and encapsulation with functions.P﻿lease note this lesson runs on Tuesday 20th June, 10-15 BST, and Wednesday 21st June, 10-15 BST.Prerequisites for participants (skills, knowledge, software)<ul><li>Participants must bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on.</li></ul><ul><li> Learners need to understand what files and directories are, what a working directory is, and how to start a Python interpreter.</li></ul><ul><li>Learners must install Python 3 before the class starts.</li></ul><ul><li>Learners must get the gapminder data(http://swcarpentry.github.io/python-novice-gapminder/files/python-novice-gapminder-data.zip) before class starts: please download and unzip the file python-novice-gapminder-data.zip.</li></ul><ul><li>Please see http://swcarpentry.github.io/python-novice-gapminder/index.html#setup</li></ul>Instructor: Dr Danai Korre, Research Associate in Augmented Reality, School of Engineering, University of Edinburgh.
