Join us for an international evening of poetry exploring the beasts within and among us! Poets Jodie Hollander, Luke Morgan, Christina Thatcher and Emily Vanderploeg will invite you into the animal kingdom and encourage you to question your place within it. Watch out for salamanders, jellyfish, hummingbirds, horses and more. Metaphorical beasts will come lurking too - the family, the lovers, the self.This reading will blur the boundaries between human and creature. Hosted 'in-the-round' by these four poets, this evening will play with the idea of conjuring, evoking and remembering. What other beasts might emerge from the (poetic) woods? Sign up to find out! Her debut full-length collection, My Dark Horses, was published with Liverpool University Press &amp; Oxford University Press. Her second collection, Nocturne, will be published with the Liverpool &amp; Oxford University Press in the spring of 2023. Hollander is the recipient of a MacDowell fellowship and a Fulbright fellowship in South Africa. She is also the originator of 'Poetry in the Parks,' in conjunction with several National Parks and Monuments in the US. She currently lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.Luke Morgan's second collection, Beast, was published by Arlen House 2022 and described in the Irish Times as showing "a real ambition" with "striking, energetic imagination". His debut, Honest Walls, was published in 2016. He has new poetry appearing in various journals at home and abroad in 2023. As well as poetry, he is also an award-winning filmmaker. She keeps busy off campus as Poetry Editor for The Cardiff Review, a tutor for The Poetry School, a member of the Literature Wales Management Board and as a freelance workshop facilitator across the UK. Her poetry and short stories have featured in publications such as Ambit, Butcher's Dog, Magma, North American Review, Poetry Wales, The Poetry Review, The London Magazine and more. She has published two poetry collections with Parthian Books: More than you were (2017) and How to Carry Fire (2020). She studied Creative Writing at Swansea University (MA, PhD), and English and Art History at Queen’s University (BA Hons), where she teaches creative writing online. Emily is a Hay Festival Writer at Work and recently completed a novel with the help of a Literature Wales New Writer’s Bursary Award. Her poetry pamphlet, Loose Jewels, won the Cinnamon Press Pamphlet Competition and was published in 2020. Strange Animals, her debut collection of poetry, was published by Parthian Books in 2022. Originally from Aurora, Ontario, Canada, where she won 1st prize in the 1984 Baby Contest, she lives in Swansea.
