Great poems,' David Whyte has said, 'are not about experience, but are the experience itself, felt in the body.'

When you react to a poem where do you feel that connection? How do we locate our feelings, emotions? Moshe Feldenkrais said every emotion has muscular activity, so if you respond emotionally to a poem, where do you feel it physically?

Please join Helen Lincoln for a poetry and awareness through movement experience in the studio of renowned Jersey artist Jason Butler. You’ll enjoy a poem together then take to the floor for an Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lesson, revisiting the poem to explore, share and locate where we felt the feelings aroused by the poem.

“Poetry communicates before it is understood.”

Intrigued and curious? You're welcome. There is no need to have any prior familiarity with Awareness Through Movement or poetry. This is not an academic workshop, but a relaxing melding of two enjoyable sensations for all to experience.

Awareness Through Movement uses slow, mindful movements to enhance our sense of ourselves.

Please wear warm comfortable clothing (it does not need to be fitness attire), bring a yoga mat or similar, a blanket and some water. Please be advised you will need to be comfortable getting down and up from the floor to fully participate in the awareness through movement section.
