POLYPHONY 21

With support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council, QSS provide affordable studios for professional artists in Belfast. Our artist members deliver a diverse range of public facing activities locally, across the UK and internationally, all supported by their-studio centred practice. Closer to home our artists foster links with the wider community via a range on in-house events; from guided tours and workshops through to exhibitions and open days.

QSS is delighted to welcome visitors back to our gallery for Polyphony 21, the MFA first-year show from the Belfast School of Art.Although this exhibition opened online on 6th May, in person visits can take place for the final week from Tuesday 25th May through to Saturday 29th May. An informal viewing will also be held on the Thursday evening (27th) from 6-8pm (booking required).Polyphony, having two or more harmonies or tones of equal resonance, describes the interdisciplinary nature, and collective-curatorial thought behind this exhibition.For the first time in the history of the MFA course the entire exhibition event has been planned virtually by a 1st year group who have never been together in the same physical space at the same time. The pursuit of harmony describes their process during a time of struggle, determination and hope, uniting seventeen artists from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.The exhibiting artists draw inspiration from an eclectic plethora of topics including climate change, our interior and exterior landscapes, cultural fables, phenomenological experience, spiritual planes of thought, liminality, and ontology. In this case, a maximum of two people from the same group may use the lift.</li></ul><ul><li>Follow the one-way system through the gallery as directed (arrows/signage).</li></ul><ul><li>Our toilets are open but access is limited to one person at a time. Follow the guidelines posted outside the toilets for usage.</li></ul>Additional measures when attending an evening or weekend event:<ul><li>Book your time slot (30 minutes duration) via Eventbrite.</li></ul><ul><li>As we will be operating at a reduced capacity (maximum of 30 visitors at any one time), it may be necessary to queue for a short period upon arrival. Please follow the directions of staff, and observe social distancing guidelines.</li></ul>
