Pongal Celebration
A community event for Pongal, a Tamil harvest festival with agrarian roots presented by ROT Collective and Calthorpe Community Garden.
Join us in celebrating Pongal, a festival in gratitude of sun, land, and harvest, celebtrated by Tamil communities worldwide.
The festival involves boiling a pot of milk for a bountiful harvest and a sweetened rice dish called pongal will be served to all. Usually, the festival involves giving thanks to rice farmers, but we will be giving thanks to our gardeners and volunteers at Calthorpe.
What to expect?
A communal Kolam (geometric rice pattern), Henna sticks for children, children's art workshop, open discussions, readings, a short film, and the Pongal ceremony.
The schedule of the day is as follows:
1.15- 1.45pm: Ceremony
1.45-2.15pm: Serving of pongal.
2.30-3.15pm: Film & Discussion (+ food selling from the hatch)
