Portable Creative Kits

This is an in-person internal event exclusive to university staff.

The event will take place in GSG-07.

Illustration and image-making have a rich heritage of documentation of people and spaces within locations. From the French En plein air ‘outdoors’ in situ painting method to the informative authority of reportage illustration.

In this CREATURE Lab Emily Evans will present her current and ongoing research into portable making and the development of small portable self-made contraptions, image-making kits and the wider portable movement both historical and contemporary.

Evans will showcase visual examples of kits found during her research including portable illustration kits such as portable printmaking kits, underwater drawing kits, and customised prams.

This session will invite participants to respond to the value of making in-situ and how these kits provide accessible benefits to both the maker and communities, and the processes of reportage documentation.

Emily Evans is a Senior Lecturer on the BA Illustration & Animation course at LMU. Her creative practice is collage and mixed media moving image, her research topics explore portable analog collage kits and processes, and the epistemologies that can be discussed through the lens of examining collage processes.
