Positive Futures: Mapping Monuments

Positive Futures: Mapping Monuments

Modern Art OxfordOxford, Oxfordshire
Thursday, Mar 19 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm GMT
Overview

Use writing and audio recording to imagine future technologies and their potential impact.

Use writing and audio recording to imagine future technologies and their potential impact.

Each class invites group discussion within a lively, social setting.

Inspired by Suzanne Treister’s Scientific Dreaming (2022) and AI Quantum Dreaming (2025), imagine hypothetical futures and their impact on local environments, and creatively explore future scientific and technological breakthroughs. Using writing diagrams and walking tours as inspiration, we will imagine sculptural monuments and markers dedicated to positive futures around Oxford.

This is a relaxed, social session to explore a new perspective on creative writing. We will be learning the unique writing process developed by Suzanne Treister during her residency at CERN, where she was collaborating with scientists to explore imaginary technological developments of the future. We will be following this process, imagining future public monuments and statues, and developing tour-guide style writing and audio recordings of these dreamed futures.

Your ticket includes all materials and a complimentary drink. Book before 22 September to benefit from our early bird discount.
