THIS EVENT IS FOR THE POST-EXCAVATION PROCESSING AT THE COTSWOLD ARCHAEOLOGY WAREHOUSE AS PART OF THE RENDLESHAM REVEALED PROJECT.

Join the team to carry out the Post-Excavation Processing work on the excavated material from the summer's fieldwork at Rendlesham. The sessions are hosted by Cotswold Archaeology in their post-excavation warehouse on the Lion Barn Industrial Estate in Needham Market.

How to Book

Booking is essential as spaces are limited.

Book your place now using the "Register" button and select the date(s) and number of spaces you want to book. Once booked, you will receive further information about the activity including where to park and what to bring.

If you find that you are unable to attend a session after you have booked, please tell us asap to allow other volunteers the opportunity to volunteer.

What is involved?

Volunteer days are Mondays and Fridays, 9.30am-3pm. Booking is essential.

Post-excavation involves several different tasks throughout the process. Volunteers will have the opportunities to wash and mark finds from the excavation and under the guidance of Cotswold post-excavation staff learn how to quantify the finds and prepare them to be sent to specialists for assessment. Volunteers may also process and sort the environmental bulk samples, input site data onto a database and photograph and record the registered artefacts.

No experience necessary as training and support will be provided by Cotswold Archaeology.

Facilities:

The volunteering will be inside in the warehouse. There are toilets and a break area. There are no catering facilities so please bring your own food and water.

Parking will be available nearby on the industrial estate. The warehouse is also within walking distance of Needham Market railway station.

Covid-19 Notice

Please take an at-home lateral flow test before arriving to site, if you can and have access to tests. You are welcome to wear a mask while indoors, please be mindful of other people's choice to do so as some people may vulnerable. Hand washing facilities and hand sanitiser will be available.
