Event description
A supportive space to explore and plan for your postnatal period

About this Event

How would you like your postnatal time to be?

The first few days and weeks after the birth of your baby can feel blissful, however it is normal to also have times when you feel overwhelmed and emotional as you get to know your baby, integrate the birth, establish feeding, deal with interrupted sleep and adapt to caring for your baby whilst trying to recover and find a new rhythm as a family.

Many cultures have a tradition of postpartum support involving care for the newborn, special food, massage and other forms of care for the mother and up to 3 months of being supported by her community so she can rest and recover. In our culture there seems to be so much pressure to get up and about soon after the birth and even if a lying in period is wanted by the new mum it is hard to come by in a culture where everyone is so busy. This is why I feel that planning this time is so important.

Postnatal Planning Workshop

Annie is offering this workshop with Olivia Seck to pregnant women/couples in the Totnes area.

It will be a space for you to explore how you would like this postnatal time to feel like, the ‘essence’ of what you/and your partner want for yourself, your baby and any other siblings. We will then invite you to think of how this could look practically which could include your rest and recovery, visitors, how you want to feed your baby, where they will sleep, who will be cooking and cleaning and other relevant areas.

I believe that preparing for this time can enable you to feel empowered to make conscious choices and support your recovery, bonding and breastfeeding. All of which, will support you as a mother (and as a family) to navigate your parenting journey feeling resourced and connected to yourself and those you love.

Annie Gardner: As a postnatal doula and educator, as well as herbalist and holistic sleep coach, I am dedicated to supporting families to prepare for the change that having a baby brings. This could be through group or individual sessions during pregnancy, postnatal follow-up visits (or sessions on zoom) and through my work as a postnatal doula.
