Have your got a business idea, innovation, or product that you just need a bit of support to get up and running? Look no further, this is the perfect four stage course for you. These four sessions will help you get to a position where you will be able to take your idea/product to market.

The sessions will be

• Focused on tasks for your business idea, or product

There will be four sessions, a more detailed outline of each session is below. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions in order as each workshop will build on the preceeding session.

• September Session 1 - Getting started with applied innovation
• October Session 2 - Sorting through your ideas
• November Session 3 - Testing your ideas
• December Session 4 - Taking your ideas to Market

What to expect

This is a multi-part course on practical innovation. It will be run over four sessions, with each session a month apart.

Each session will last about 90 minutes. In total the commitment will be 6 hours over four months of directed study and any work participants undertake in their own time between sessions.

The sessions start mid-morning at 10:30 and run for 90 minutes until noon.

Each session there after will be £10pp

*Refunds will only be processed up to 1 day before the event. There after no refund can be processed.
Unfortunately City Business Library are unable to refund the Eventbrite fee, this will be deducted from the cost of the ticket when the refund is processed.

Session 2: Applied Innovation - Sorting through your ideas

Date: Wednesday 2 October, 10:30-12:00

Content of the session:

For new participants there will be a recap of the four-stage innovation process. Returning participants will feedback on the progress made against their personal Innovation Action Plan developed in session 1.

The bulk of this session explores how to come up with ideas (ideation) and how to decide which ideas to invest time and money into developing (filtering or options appraisal).

Outcome:

Updated personal Innovation Action Plan to include a long list of ideas, a system to evaluate those ideas and to develop a short list of ideas for session 3

Session 3: Applied Innovation - Testing your ideas

Date: Wednesday 6 November, 10:30-12:00

Content of the session:

For new participant’s the session will begin with a brief recap the process. Returning participants will feedback on the progress they have made against their personal Innovation Action Plan.

This session will focus on the short list of promising ideas developed in the Innovation Action Plan. We will look at understanding what customers want, testing that need and testing the ideas that meet those customer needs. We will also look at how to measure the success of tests.

Resources:

CBL research services including books, journals and reports.

Outcome:

A plan to test one or two ideas, and a framework to evaluate those tests.

Session 4: Applied Innovation - Taking your idea to market

Date: Wednesday 4 December, 10:30-12:00

Content of the session:

For new participant’s the session will begin with a brief recap the process to date. Returning participants will feedback on the progress they have made against their personal Innovation Action Plan.

The final session will introduce the growth proposition. This is a way of thinking about how to move from thinking or planning an innovation to doing or implementing a change or a new product.

Resources:

Resources will include simple and practical approaches to support the move from planning and testing to the implementation or launch stage. These include Greek Temple Model / Strategy on a Page.

Outcome:

A practical implementation plan for a new product introduction (NPI) with tasks, timescales, resource requirements and ways to measure the success of an innovation.
