Overview

We welcome you to join us at Naomi House & Jacksplace for a day of interactive and practical symptom management learning.

This day will build on regional and national theory based education programs to deliver practical application and hands on exposure to some of the most challenging symptom management situations.

This day is aimed at Band 7 and experienced Band 6 nurses, medical registrars, hospice doctors, consultants and other medical professionals wanting to establish an interest in Paediatric Palliative Medicine. This is part of a series of days supported by NHSE, PIER, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board and Naomi House & Jacksplace hospices, run at cost. Examples of opportunities for learning include:

  • Assessment, management of pain including opioid management, rotation and titration.
  • Writing and using a symptom management plan.
  • Anticipatory prescribing for the end of life (including syringe driver prescribing).
  • Simulation practice, examples of the sort of sessions include:
  • Management of a patient following extubation or removal of other life sustaining cardio/respiratory support.
  • Management of rapidly escalating pain.
  • Resistant agitation and distress at the end of life.
  • Terminal haemorrhage.
  • How to debrief with a team acutely following a period of distress/resistant symptoms.
  • Opportunity to network with like minded colleagues for support/sharing of ideas and experience.

Hot food will be provided for lunch and cake/tea/coffee throughout.
