Overview

For practice assessors to update their skills and knowledge and reflect on supporting students.

The NMC Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment require that practice assessors:

  • Receive ongoing support and training to reflect and develop in the role of the practice assessor
  • Continue to develop their professional practice and knowledge to fulfil their role
  • Maintain an understanding of the proficiencies and programme outcomes that the students they assess need to achieve.

The annual Practice Learning Updates will ensure you meet all these requirements.

Topics covered include:

  • Reflection on challenges of supporting and assessing students
  • updates on NMC Standards, university curricula and guidance, Trust policies
  • updates on practice assessment documentation, including ePAD
  • practical exercise in action planning
  • resources and further sources of support
  • New for 2024: update on precptorship, to ensure preceptors meet the national preceptorship framework requirements.


This workshop will be held via Microsoft Teams. You will receive an invitation closer to the time which contains the link to the Teams event.

These updates are designed for practice assessors, but practice supervisors are also welcome to attend to develop their skills and knowledge.


Note: If you are not familiar with using Microsoft Teams, please view the user guides available on the intranet and check that you are able to use it in advance.

  • You will need to have access to a laptop/PC/Tablet/Smartphone with consistent wi-fi/internet connection and a webcam and microphone.
  • If you plan to use a Trust PC, you need to make sure it has Teams installed and that you have a microphone and webcam that will work at least 72 hours in advance. It is recommended that you are in a quiet, private environment where you won’t be disturbed, to enable you to speak freely.
  • This is an interactive session that you will be expected to contribute to.
