Attendees will be guided through the various settings and equipment related to clinical photography, with particular focus on using a dSLR. How to take predicable, high quality extra oral and intra oral photographs, the various lighting set ups that are used clinical practice and how to incorporate clinical photography in treatment planning and record keeping will be covered to enhance a clinicians confidence in using photography.

  • Recognition and use of Photography as a Special Investigation
  • Type of Cameras and understanding of SLR cameras
  • Use of Retractors
  • Dental photo mirrors/contrastors
  • Backgrounds
  • Standardised Reproducible images
  • Lighting equipment and selection

Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to :

  • Understand the principles of photography
  • Have a working knowledge of the manual settings of a dSLR
  • Apply their knowledge to the clinical environment
  • Take high quality images using a dSlr
  • To troubleshoot to overcome problems with images
