Precision Studios - Blue Plaque Unveiling

Film maker Barry Bliss, a silent film enthusiast, has teamed up with Silent London’s Pamela Hutchinson and Walthamstow International Film Festival Director, Liza Fletcher to promote the work of the studios. Says Barry: “There seems to be no knowledge about the cinematic industry, even though the first film distribution company in Britain was founded in Walthamstow.  The founders were the trailblazers of their time.”  Mark Clack of Wood Street Walls will oversee the public art commissions to promote the project and MP Stella Creasy is the local project sponsor.

You are cordially invited to an unveiling ceremony by actor, Paul McGann at the site of the Precision Studios in Wood Street Walthamstow, now Beuleigh Court, Wood Street E17 3PA and situated on the junction of Wood Street and Lea Bridge Road, close to the Whipps Cross roundabout.
Actor Paul McGann is to unveil a first of its kind blue plaque to recognise and honour Wood Street, E17, as the home of silent cinema, on the former site of Precision film studios, the pioneer of the scene in the early part of the last century.  
Between 1910 and 1926, 400 silent films were made by four film studios, located on around Wood Street, E17, including the 1916 classic The Battle of the Somme. Many important actors first appeared in Walthamstow films including Victor Mclaglen, a John Ford stalwart who went on to win an Oscar for his role in The Informer and the famous Hollywood star Ronald Colman also launched his career was at Broadwest films.
We will then proceed to the Dukes Head, a regular hangout for the silent film industry and a 3 minute walk from the blue plaque site.
