Pitch Perfect with Becki Nash: Presenting your research in academic and professional contexts

Presenting your research is a core part of the doctoral journey, yet it can often feel daunting. Whether you're new to public speaking, unsure how to communicate your work to non‑specialists, or hoping to build confidence, this introductory workshop will help you develop clear, engaging, and impactful presentations.

In this session, postgraduate researchers will be guided through the essentials of planning, practising, and delivering effective presentations. Alongside academic settings such as conferences, vivas, and seminars, the session will also highlight how strong presentation skills play a crucial role in professional contexts, including job and placement interviews, assessment centres, and panel‑style evaluations where presenting yourself and your ideas clearly can make a meaningful difference.

Whether you're excited about presenting, nervous, or somewhere in between, this supportive workshop will help you strengthen your skills, communicate with clarity, and pitch your research with confidence across a range of academic and professional situations.

Becki has worked in academic development at the university since 2016. She first worked in Widening Participation and Social Mobility as part of the award-winning pre-entry initiative, the Learn with US Transition Programme. Since the start of 2023, she has worked in the Centre for Higher Education Practice, focused on the academic development of Postgraduate Researchers. https://www.southampton.ac.uk/people/5xg757/doctor-becki-nash
