Event description

Description

Acting on Impulse presents the film premiere of Press Call for Help at Manchester's HOME cinema.

Four strangers have survived the day from Hell. While brooding on events, their lift grinds to a halt. As life closes in, will anyone hear them?

Each of the four scenes reflects timeless yet contemporary themes that still torment us today and are lived out in unseen lives. Through skillful narrative and dynamic characters, the actors explore the complexities of poverty, immigration, economic volatility, domestic abuse and obsession, making the same demand on the audience as they do on themselves - to move beyond the headline in search of reality.

Artistic Producer Rachel Muter: 'In the year that Acting on Impulse celebrates its 10th birthday, I have been privileged to lead the workshops that developed into this film. As we explored themes found in fairy tales, I was impressed and inspired by the actors’ awareness of topical and historic social issues, and by their commitment to learn new skills, push themselves to the limit and create a supportive trusting environment, in spite of their often turbulent and precarious lives. They can be truly proud of their achievement.'

Director Jamie Shelton: 'As an actor myself (Robbie Lawson in Emmerdale), directing the actors for this year’s Acting on Impulse production has been a really eye opening experience. These untrained actors have been refreshingly uninhibited, which has allowed us to freely explore different ideas taken from real situations. The project excites me because it gives a voice to those in society who don't usually have one. To be a part of the Acting on Impulse movement is an honour.'

The event includes the main films, a Q+A with the team and cast, and a behind-the-scenes documentary.

Doors open at 11am. However feel free to join us from 10.00am at the ground floor bar.

There is no set ticket price but we welcome donations at the event. Please give generously, as all proceeds help to fund the work of the charity. Here's to the next 10 years!
