Prevent (hate and extremism) training for voluntary and community groups

Mark Wilson, our local Prevent lead for Dudley has offered to deliver one full day of training on Friday 21st June.

This course will be useful for everyone supporting children and young people within the voluntary and community sector but particularly for those of you who lead on safeguarding for your groups and organisations. More information can be found below:

Course Outline

The course will help develop your understanding on how to identify the signs and symptoms of hate and extremism that could be taking place in the borough, with a focus on voluntary and community group settings.

This course will give learners, awareness, clarity, and advice on how to deal with hate and extremism, and what some of the warning signs are.

Description

This course covers the following topics:

· The background to hate crimes, using real-life cases as illustration

· Definitions of hate crimes and hate incidents.

· The categories of hate crimes which are monitored by the police.

· How to report possible hate crimes or hate incidents.

· Understanding of the local extremism footprint for the borough.

· Development and awareness of different ideologies, with a focus on the risks that present in the borough.

· Measures that can be taken against hate and extremism, including early intervention, increased contact, and other forms of hate and extremism prevention.

· Relevant government statistics.

· Understand the role you can play in community cohesion and how you can help communities be more resilient to hate and extremism.

This course also includes powerful videos, and challenges to check your understanding and awareness of the areas covered and help you to apply the learning to the environment where you work or volunteer.

A light lunch (soup and a roll), tea and coffee will kindly be provided by High Oak. If you would prefer to bring your own lunch, that's fine too.
