Primary Steps

A 6-week Course for Parents and Carers of Neurodivergent Children aged 5-11 (School Years Reception - Year 6)

Venue: Oakview Primary Academy, Andrews Lane, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN7 6LB

A brand new, evidence based 6-week in person course for parents and carers of children aged 5-11 (School Years Reception - Year 6) with a diagnosis or on the pathway for a diagnosis of Autism and/or ADHD. Packed with accessible, interactive, outcome focused content we provide a calm, friendly and safe environment for Parents and Carers to develop a good understanding of their child’s needs. As a result of attending this course Parents and Carers will be empowered with a tool kit of strategies and interventions tailored to their family and specifically designed to support the wellbeing and social development of their children as they go through the Primay School system.

Primary Steps is family-centred, offering support with the following outcomes:

  • Understanding Neurodiversity.
  • Beginning to Understand your Child.
  • Understanding Sensory Differences.
  • Communication.
  • Supporting and Developing Interaction.
  • Understanding and Supporting Behaviour.


The courses will be delivered by our SEND Family Support Team who are trained facilitators and also have extensive experience and training to support and train parents and carers of neurodiverse children including: early years inclusion specialism, the nurture programme, Hertfordshire STEPS, mental health first aid, early bird trainers, AET Train the Trainer and Parental Conflict training.


Primary Steps will take place on the following dates:

Session 1: Friday 9th January 2026, 10.00-12.00

Session 2: Friday 16th January 2026, 10.00-12.00

Session 3: Friday 23rd January 2026, 10.00-12.00

Session 4: Friday 30th January 2026, 10.00-12.00

Session 5: Friday 6th February 2026, 10.00-12.00

Session 6: Friday 13th February 2026, 10.00-12.00

Teas and coffees are provided and there is parking available on site at Great St Mary's Church
